We act as a Data Fiduciary under the Digital Personal Data Protection Act, 2023 (“DPDP Act”) and the DPDP Rules, 2025, and follow the Information Technology Act, 2000 and its rules. By using our services you agree to this policy.
1. Data we collect
We collect the following categories of personal data, depending on how you use Sakhi Cabs:
Identity & contact: your name, mobile number, and email address.
Booking details: pickup and drop addresses, ride type, date and time, and saved/favourite locations.
Location data: precise device location (with your permission) to show nearby cabs, enable pickup, and let you and your contacts track a live ride.
Payment data: amounts, transaction status, and tokens handled by our payment partner. We do not store full card or bank details on our servers.
Account & usage: PIN/OTP verification status, referral and coupon activity, ride history, in-app messages, and support requests.
Device & technical: device type, OS, app version, IP address, and diagnostic logs.
For driver-partners: additional KYC documents (ID, licence, vehicle papers) and, for the driver app, background location during active trips.
2. Why we use your data (purposes)
To provide, operate, and improve the ride-booking service and match you with a driver.
To verify your identity by SMS/OTP and prevent fraud and misuse.
To process payments, refunds, coupons, and referrals.
To enable safety features such as live trip tracking and SOS.
To send booking confirmations, ride updates, and service or transactional messages.
To provide customer support and resolve grievances.
To meet legal, tax, regulatory, and aggregator-licensing obligations.
To send promotional messages only where you have consented (you can opt out anytime).
3. Consent and legal basis
We collect and process your personal data based on the consent you give when you sign up, book a ride, or grant app permissions, and for the legitimate uses permitted under the DPDP Act. You may withdraw consent at any time (see “Your rights” below); withdrawing certain consents (for example, location) may limit or prevent parts of the service.
4. Who we share data with
We share the minimum data needed, with:
Driver-partners — your name, contact, and pickup/drop details to complete the ride.
Payment processor — to take payments and issue refunds (e.g. our PCI-DSS-compliant gateway).
Communications providers — to send OTP/SMS, WhatsApp, or email notifications.
Maps and location providers — to power addresses, routing, and tracking.
Cloud, hosting, and analytics providers — acting as our Data Processors under contract.
Authorities and regulators — where required by law, court order, or to protect safety.
5. Data retention
We keep your personal data only as long as needed for the purposes above or as required by law (for example, tax and transaction records). When the purpose is served and there is no legal requirement to retain it, we delete or anonymise the data. You can request deletion of your account and data at any time (see our Data Deletion page).
6. Your rights
Under the DPDP Act you have the right to:
Access a summary of the personal data we hold about you and how it is processed.
Correct, complete, update, or erase your personal data.
Withdraw consent you previously gave.
Nominate another person to exercise your rights in case of death or incapacity.
Grievance redressal — raise a complaint with us, and escalate to the Data Protection Board of India if unresolved.
7. Children’s data
Our services are intended for adults (18+). We do not knowingly collect data from children without verifiable consent of a parent or legal guardian as required by the DPDP Act. If you believe a child has provided us data, contact us and we will delete it.
8. Security & breach handling
We use reasonable technical and organisational safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls, and monitoring — to protect your data. No method is perfectly secure, but in the event of a personal data breach we will notify the affected users and the Data Protection Board of India as required by law.
